Best Reiki in Manhattan, New York: Top 3 Practitioners
These three Manhattan Reiki practices publish their location, formats and, in two cases, prices on their own websites, which we read in October 2026: Self Empowered Minds on the Upper East Side, the NYC Reiki Center on Union Square, and Jissel Ravelo at the Upsoul Center in Chelsea. “Best” here means a practice whose details we could confirm at the source, not a judgment of results; Reiki has not been shown to treat any health condition, as the evidence section below explains. Self Empowered Minds
Saba Hocek, a Reiki Master in the Usui/Holy Fire lineage, gives Reiki sessions at Self Empowered Minds on East 81st Street between First and York Avenues. Her page, selfempoweredminds.com/reiki-and-energy-healing/, lists the initial session at $327 and a free 20-minute consultation; you stay fully clothed, hands rest lightly on or hover near the body, and you can ask for no touch or decline the optional oils and eye mask. Other formats include distance sessions by video, 120-minute couples sessions with two practitioners, 60-minute children’s sessions with a parent in the room, and sessions for pets. She may add her Biological Intuitive Technique, which the page describes as intuitive observations for reflection that do not establish a diagnosis. Saba also teaches Reiki Level I, II and Master, with three months of weekly mentoring circles after Level II and Master, and weekly Reiki circles run through the sister studio Active Studios NYC. NYC Reiki Center
The NYC Reiki Center, at 41 Union Square West, Suite 711, says it was founded in 2007 by Brian Brunius and teaches in the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition. When we checked, its two-hour Full Body Reiki Treatment, which begins with a conversation and goal setting, was listed at $375, or $475 with Brian Brunius. The one-hour Tune-Up at $225 ($325 with Brunius) is described as a short session for clients who have already had several longer treatments, so it is not a first appointment. Jissel Ravelo
Jissel Ravelo is an Advanced Reiki Master practitioner and teacher who cites more than 15 years of experience and blends Reiki with life coaching, energy healing and bodywork. She sees clients at the Upsoul Center, 141 West 28th Street, a few blocks from Penn Station, or virtually, and offers Reiki training and mentoring. Call (646) 499-2399.
What the evidence says
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health states that “Reiki hasn’t been clearly shown to be effective for any health-related purpose” and that there is no scientific evidence for the energy field Reiki is thought to involve (NCCIH). A Cochrane review found “insufficient evidence to make any comment about the usefulness of Reiki for the treatment of anxiety and depression” (Joyce and Herbison, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2015). Some people use Reiki for relaxation; it is not a substitute for medical or mental health care. If you are having cancer treatment or another medical treatment, tell your care team before adding it. Hospitals, HSAs and massage: Manhattan Reiki questions
Do Manhattan hospitals offer Reiki?
Some hospital integrative programs include Reiki for their own patients. Ask your care team whether your hospital offers it; a hospital’s program describes patient comfort, not evidence that Reiki treats illness.
Can I use an HSA or FSA for Reiki?
Check with your plan administrator first. IRS Publication 502 excludes expenses that are “merely beneficial to general health” (IRS Publication 502), so a wellness service may not qualify.
Does a Reiki session include massage?
Ask. Under New York law, massage may only be practiced or advertised by a licensed massage therapist (Education Law Article 155), so a session that includes massage should be given by a licensed therapist.
