Rochester Hypnotist Services
This page lists two Rochester hypnotists who set out their services on their own websites, which we read in October 2026: Sharon Altman, MSW, CH, of Brighter Life Hypnosis on Monroe Avenue, and Helga Rahn of Inner Harmony Hypnosis, who publishes a price of $200 per session and asks for a doctor’s referral before working on any medically diagnosed condition. The order below is not a ranking.
Brighter Life Hypnosis (Sharon Altman)
Brighter Life Hypnosis is at 3380 Monroe Avenue. Sharon Altman lists an MSW and a certification in hypnosis (CH), and her site describes programs for quitting smoking, losing weight, fears and anxieties, stress management and pain. Call (585) 645-3377.
Inner Harmony Hypnosis (Helga Rahn)
Inner Harmony Hypnosis is the practice of Helga Rahn, a certified hypnotist who cites 26 years of experience. Work begins with a consultation visit of at least an hour and a half, and up to two hours for complex issues, before the first hypnosis session; each hypnosis transformation session is $200. Her site states that health insurance does not cover hypnosis and that, for a medically diagnosed mental or physical illness, she asks your doctor to approve and sign a referral form before she begins. Sessions are by appointment. Call (585) 662-9665; the site also lists (585) 654-9323.
What the research supports
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health reports evidence for gut-directed hypnotherapy in irritable bowel syndrome and a growing body of evidence that hypnosis may help with some painful conditions; studies on quitting smoking have had conflicting results (NCCIH). Session counts that a practice expects are its own estimate, so ask how it arrives at one for your goal.
Credentials
An MSW is a degree; a New York clinical social work license is separate, and hypnosis is not on the list of professions the state’s Office of the Professions licenses (professions index). You can look up any New York license on the verification search. For a diagnosed anxiety disorder, depression or trauma, see a licensed clinician. If you are in crisis, call or text the 988 Lifeline at 988; in an emergency, call 911.
