Staten Island Hypnotist Services
Alan L. Smith, PhD, CI, has practiced hypnosis on Staten Island since 1984 and offers free consultations and, when needed, home visits, according to his website, which we read in October 2026. He is the Staten Island practitioner on this page whose own site we could confirm. If you would rather work remotely, the NYC Hypnosis Center in Manhattan names Staten Island among the areas it serves by Zoom. Before you choose, it helps to know what New York does and does not license, covered below.

Alan L. Smith, PhD, CI
Alan L. Smith combines hypnosis with counseling and life coaching, and his site lists membership in the American Board of Hypnotherapy, the National Guild of Hypnotists and N.Y.S.E.P.H. He works on habits such as smoking, overeating and procrastination, on stress and anxiety, on fears and phobias such as fear of driving or public speaking, and on grief. The site says the number of sessions depends on your goals and is set out in a plan after the first consultation, and it advertises same-day appointments. Call (718) 698-5506 for a free consultation; the site also lists (917) 796-8905.
NYC Hypnosis Center
For a remote option, the NYC Hypnosis Center, run by Eli Bliliuos at 241 West 30th Street in Manhattan, lists Staten Island among the areas it serves and offers sessions by Zoom as well as in person. The site lists board certification from the IACHT and certifications from the National Guild of Hypnotists and the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, and says it does not require a large package. Call (877) 800-6443.
What New York licenses
Hypnosis is not one of the professions licensed by New York’s Office of the Professions (professions index), so a hypnosis credential, like the board and guild memberships above, comes from a private organization. A PhD is an academic degree, not a license. Psychologists, social workers and mental health counselors are licensed, and you can confirm anyone’s New York license on the state’s license verification search. That matters if your concern is a diagnosed condition such as an anxiety disorder or depression, which is work for a licensed clinician. If you are in crisis, call or text the 988 Lifeline at 988; in an emergency, call 911.
What hypnosis can do depends on the goal. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health reports evidence for gut-directed hypnotherapy in irritable bowel syndrome and a growing body of evidence that hypnosis may help with some painful conditions, while studies on quitting smoking have had conflicting results (NCCIH).
